Les Roncières is a 0.97 hectare premier cru vineyard located between Les Porrets and Les Pruliers to the south of the Nuits St Georges village.

Mid-slope at an altitude of 250 to 300 metres, the 45 year old vines face east to south-east enabling an earlier ripening of the fruit. Here the

light brown soils have a thin gravel scree with a high limestone content are on a bedrock of white oolite over pink Prémeaux limestone.

This is almost a blend of the Bousselots and the Chaignots with aromatic elegance and precision of the former with the earthy, slightly rustic

quality of the latter but it's the superb intensity and balance that really sets the Roncières apart. This may be the best effort with this wine

since the outstanding '93.
